The Maitai Floods

Torrential rain in the catchment area of the Maitai river caused a flash flood late in January. It was described as the worst since 1955. Gardens of several houses on Clouston Terrace {upper Nile Street) were inundated, as were a few by the river on the western side of the Nile Street bridge. The Maitai Valley road was in parts covered by water to a depth of about 2ft. But as quickly as it rose, the river subsided, and no real damage was done.
