90th Birthday . Nine of her eleven surviving children attended Mrs J. M. Jope's 90th birthday, recently. Mrs Jope, of 24 Mill Street, celebrated the occasion on September 30. A new recruit to the newsroom is Fay Thompson, who was engaged in news work in Christchurch, before transferring to Nelson. Fay's a graduate of the Wellington Polytechnic school of journalism

And also on the announcing staff is 22-year-old Garth Sweeny, who is originally from Gisborne. He has been in programme departments in Gisborne and Rotorua and this is his first announcing appointment. Garth is single
