Junior Basketball Champs
The annual presentation of trophies to the champion teams in the Y.M.C.A. junior basketball competitions had a special significance this year. Kelvin Gay, chairman of the Y.M.C.A. Friday night basketball committee, since its inception 21 years ago, retired from the position. During those 21 years many of the young players introduced to basketball in the Friday night competition have risen to provincial and national level. The president of the Nelson Y.M.C.A., Graeme Todd, paid tribute to Mr Gay's service and a presentation was made from the players. (Note: All teams are named from the right).
Many young basketballers have started in the Friday night competition. Here, a new player, Chris Pugh, is shown thanking Kelvin Gay for his devotion to the sport. At the left is Y.M.C.A. president Graeme Todd and next to Mr Gay is Mrs Todd
