Seatrans 50-Miler to Jack Anderson

Nelson riders were prominent in the annual Seatrans Nelson 50-mile cycling championship, and it was only fair that one of the local boys should win. In a tight finish, Jack Anderson pipped veteran Ray Bryant, to make it one-two for Nelson. Third was Paul Wallace of Hutt. Seven of the first ten home were Nelson riders. To make it a family affair, Ray Anderson, Jack's younger brother, from Christchurch, took fastest time of 1hr 55 min. 47 sec., about three seconds off the record. Forty-five riders competed in ideal conditions.
