Ballroom Dancing: A Popular Easter Event
The seventh Easter championships and festival, organised by the Nelson Amateur Ballroom Dancing Association, proved as successful as previous e-vents and will probably receive as much support in the future, from outside competitors. Sixty-seven couples entered the event, which was held in the Stoke basketball stadium.
A highlight was the crowning of the Queen of the Ballroom. This year the Queen was Linda Chenery of Christchurch, who was crowned by the previous winner, Pat Lloyd (Christchurch). Jacqui Soutter (Nelson), left, was third, and runner-up was Karen Tyrrell (Chirstchurch). Second from left is Mrs B. R. Eyre, patron of the Nelson Association.
The Princess, Sharon Wood of Wellington, is flanked by Karen Lindley of Nelson (third) and Susan Wentworth of Christchurch. Behind the winner is last year's Princess, Sharon Nesbitt of Nelson.
