Extensive Search For Escapers

About 60 police, from Wellington, Christchurch, Nelson and Greymouth, combed the Lake Rotoiti area for the two Invercargill Borstal escapers, Allan Raymond Lucas, 19, and Christopher Owen Donald, 16. After extensive searching proved fruitless, police numbers were reduced. Soon after, the two youths were caught near Blenheim. Tney escaped from Invercargill on New Year's Eve and were at large for nearly three weeks.
