Cloudy Skies Did Not Dampen Rose Week

Rarely did the sun shine through the overcast sky during Rose Week, but that did little to affect the festivities which culminated with the crowning of the Rose Queen at Broadgreen. There were 13 Rose Princesses, contestants for the coveted Rose Queen title. The title was won by attractive Christine Phillips, who was sponsored by Stoke Jaycee. Another highlight of the week was a colourful procession through inner city streets and, during the evening, a country and western show was held at Trafalgar Park. A Rose Ball was also held and this proved a popular addition to the programme.
