Australia Thrashes Combined
Like the New Zealand team in individual matches in the centennial golf tournament in Auckland, the Nelson-Marlborough players were no match for the Australian side, except for Combined's No.5, Wayne Maw, who beat Noel Ratcliffe two and one, and Kelvin Gardiner, Combined's No.1, who had a keen tussle with Terry Gale and Graeme Daines; the local players fared badly. Australia won the encounter 5-1.
Newcomer to representative golf, Peter McMahon, Nelson, lost three and one to Peter Bennett

Among the keen spectators were Les Graham (Australian Golf Union rep), Eric Lusk (Australian team manager), Reg Ford (district co-selector) and Don Harborne (Nelson Golf Club head greenkeeper)
