Second Challenge Repulsed

In an uninspiring match, Nelson Bays retained the Seddon Shield from West Coast in the second challenge for the coveted rugby trophy. Bays won this game 15-11 but it is not a victory they will cherish. Play was vigorous but scrappy, with neither side consistently handling well. A highlight of Bays' effort was the fine performance of fullback Trevor Morris, who hardly put a foot wrong and saved his side from many tight spots. Scorers for Nelson Bays: Tries — Gerry Townsend, Bruce Smith. Penalties — John Scott, Trevor Morris. Dropped goal (from 65 yards) — Trevor Morris. West Coast: Try - Doug Bruce. Penalties — Peter Nolan, Russell Nelson, Conversion — Russell Nelson.
