Takaka Round-Up

Quite a lot goes on "over the hill" in Takaka which we don't hear much about. But here we catch up a bit, thanks to our Takaka correspondents Bob Papps.

The Takaka Lions Club made a fine contribution by organising functions and appeals to raise $15, 000 for a new engine for the volunteer fire brigade. Here Lions president Mr F. B. King receives a cheque for $1000 from the manager of the Golden Bay Cement Co., Mr R. S. Haille. This was the biggest single donation

A recent Golden Bay Jaycee public speaking contest was won by William Rea (T.H.D.S.), from Suzanne Beardmore (Collingwood D.H.S.) and Phillip Robertson (T.D.H.S.). The winning address was "Pollution in our environment."
