Nelson College in the days preceding the Murchison earthquake. The quake brought down the central clock tower and not long afterwards the building was demolished and replaced by the present building.

In view of the growth of modern Nelson, we thought readers would be interested in some early pictures of the town and its citizens. All the pictures on these two pages were supplied to us by Mr Fred Jones, a wellknown Nelson identity, and at one time Nelson photographer. That's Fred, right above, on his patented photographer's ladder.
