Oldham's Creek Bridge, Wakapuaka

×

Once the main road traversed Oldham's Creek Bridge at Wakapuaka but this stretch is now by-passed by a new section over what was once mudflat. A ford across the creek is at the right of the bridge. Houses have replaced much of the vegetation. (K. Brown photo).

This was once one of the stately houses of Nelson. Built for Colonel Pitt, a former Attorney-General, it more recently belonged to the Richardson family, until a bulldozer reduced it to rubble, making way for subdivision and building. Muritai, as the house was called, commanded a fine view of Tasman Bay, Haulashore Island, the Boulder Bank, and was situated between Princes Drive and Richardson Street. (K. Brown photo).

This is not one of Nelson's historic buildings but many Nelsonians will probably have seen the old Bath House at Rotorua. Miss Brown visited the thermal region of New Zealand in 1921 and took a photograph of the building.
