During the so-called New Year's Eve festivities in Trafalgar Street, some idiot gave a malicious fire alarm which brought a unit of the Nelson Fire Brigade tearing through Trafalgar Street. The engine had to negotiate a sea of broken bottles on the road and hundreds of people on the street before it arrived at the scene of the alarm, at the Hardy Street intersection.
