The Chips Flew at Hope

Forty of the best axemen in New Zealand competed in the final two days of the Nelson-Marlborough chopping circuit at Hope. Tokoroa's Dave Lamberton scooped a pool of $430 over the four days. The other two days' competition were at Picton and Kaikoura. Many current New Zealand representatives were present but included in the impressive list of competitors were several champions of earlier years. One of them was Tom Donnelly, West Coast, who with his brother Charlie won several national sawing titles.
