Mardi Gras Time
"Eh, senor, somebody put out the lights and I can't see the Mardi Gras" - a dim-out comment from young reveller, Tony Manihera.
Nelson Jaycees "Mardi Gras" was held a week earlier than usual this year with very encouraging (finance-wise) results. It seemed to us that the crowd was bigger than ever before, a very well-behaved crowd and a cheerful one. Again, the two big attractions were the main stage at the Church Steps end of Trafalgar Street and the 2ZN talent quest, which attracted full entries and a tremendous following. Feature artists this year were the Hamilton County Blue Grass Band, a wonderful group which got a great reception from the crowd (Above Right).
Straight from "Puf 'n Stuff'"came Witchie Poo (Janice Brown), first in the 12-and-under fancy-dress.
