The big event of the last four weeks in Nelson was the Rose Week Festival - a most successful venture and one which will undoubtedly become an annual event in the district. Elsewhere in this issue we have covered the festival activities thoroughly, but only colour can effectively portray the beauty of the rose. And Sue Austin, a 19-year-old hairdresser who was placed third in the Rose Princess contest, adds further beauty to this scene in the Queen's Gardens.

Our Back Cover features the principals of another feature we have covered in this issue - Mr and Mrs Athol Rowling of Kaiteriteri Beach. Behind them is their motel complex they began building 21 years ago.
