South Island Skating

Skaters from all parts of the South Island, with a very strong team from Christchurch, competed in the South Island skating championships at Nelson during Labour Weekend. The emphasis today on speed skating was most marked, only small numbers entering the figure and artistic skating sections. The speed sections, in contrast, drew big fields and were strongly contested. Distances in these events ranged from 200 metres to 20,000 metres.
