Maitai Valley Access

Access to the upper Maitai Valley (beyond the Poleford Bridge), made precarious by the heavy flooding in the Maitai River recently, was improved by the Waimea County Council staff recently. To do so, two spots on the roadside, of solid rock, had to be blasted out to increase the road width. We got these pix just as the blasting was about to begin at the spot closest to the bridge.
