Nelson College Wins Again
For the third successive year, the Nelson College First XV won the quadrangular inter-collegeiate Rugby tournament, when at the college it first trounced the more-fancied Wellington College team 24-3 and on the second day, won a hard final against Wanganui Collegiate 14-8. Wanganui had earlier beaten Christ's College 11-8 and Christ's College in turn beat Wellington 26-14.
In Nelson's first match against Wellington College, the Nelson pack showed too much drive and the backs ran with too much purpose for their opposition. Sprinter A. J. Osborne had a field day at centre for Nelson in this game, but an injured ankle and more certain tackling by his marker, T. Ruaiti, restricted his chances in the final with Wanganui. In the final Nelson found a more worthy opponent in Wanganui. Wanganui opened with a shock try which was converted and from that time on the scoring see-sawed. Nelson held a 6-5 lead at half time, Wanganui recaptured it 8-6, then a try gave Nelson a 9-8 margin and another try gave Nelson an undisputed lead which Wanganui could not whittle down.
