The Big Milking Contest
To publicise its milk biscuit project, Nelson Jaycees held a "monster" milking contest in the grounds of Central School last month. Contestants were radio personality Lindsay Yeo, the Mayor, Mr Horne, the school's first assistant, Mr W. Anderson, and a school dental nurse, Miss H. Sim. The cows co-operated as best they could, but they had a fair handicap in the inexperienced hands of the four contestants. Winner of the event was Miss Sim, much to the delight of pupils. A general view of the scene is shown Above.
Mayor Horne: "Gold mining is more productive."
Mr Anderson: "Wish I had four hands."
Lindsay Yeo: "Wish I had the udder one."
Miss Sim: "Nothing like a woman's touch."
Jaycee president, Mr Hanley Bowater, tips the cow juice into the "milk biscuit machine" and the children later sampled the end product.
