From a collection by photographer Mr Brown taken well before the turn of the century, we have been told. We've had some trouble in deciding the location of the picture. It appears to be Selwyn Place, with the Church Steps at left and the City Council chambers would be at right. An alternative suggestion to us was that was taken in Church Street looking towards Nile Street West (at right) and the Nelson Bowling Club's site. We plump for Selwyn Place.

From the files of the late Mr Fred Jones is this pic of "Red Cross Day, 1917". Anybody remember the parade?

Had your fill of the floods? Just to remind you that they're nothing new, here's one resurrected from the archives, of the Maitai River in flood in 1904.

Here's another oldy. Recognise it? Yep, that's Haven Road looking towards the port with the Boulder Bank and lighthouse in the background.
