Greasy Conditions for Harriers

Heavy rain which caused the cancellation of all other sport in the province did not deter harriers from competing in the Brooklyn Shield meeting on a very testing course at Wakapuaka. As expected, no senior runner was able to offer Rod Dixon any serious competition and he won the big event without being pushed at any stage. But oh, the conditions! Full creeks, slippery and treacherous downhill paths and bog were additional obstacles facing the runners who took part in the main and inter-club events. The Trafalgar Club won four of the six team events, but had no answer to the harrier section of the N.A.A.H. and C. club in the senior event. The club's runners filled the first six placings.
