A group of Australian indoor bowlers making a tour of New Zealand stopped off at Nelson to enjoy the sun and have a game with fellow bowlers. A tournament was arranged by the St. Mary's club and visitors from sister clubs in Nelson district swelled numbers and made for a very enjoyable evening. We got this group pic during a break in games.

The Rival Rugby Football Club this year celebrates its 75th jubilee. One of the club's earliest teams was this third grade side, winners of the championship in 1897 and 1898. Only one of these players is still alive, Mr F. J. Cullen (second right, back row), who was recently awarded the British Empire Medal by the Queen.
