Port Nelson-Monaco Boat Race

You didn't have to have a 125hp outboard and the fastest hull in Nelson to win the annual Port Nelson to Monaco boat race organised by the Monaco Power Boat Club. All that was required was a reliable boat and engine and a good navigator. Ted Palmer and his navigator Terry Drake (BELOW) proved that when they brought their 40hp outboard-powered boat home with only 336 penalty points against them. Surely a case where "Miss Conduct" conducted herself well! The race drew large entries this year and was sailed on a satin-smooth surface. A big crowd lined Wakefield Quay and Rocks Road to watch the 10-mile event.
