Charity At Work

Most New Zealand cities have charitable organisations in abundance, but as far as is known, Nelson's Voluntary Home Aid Service is unique in this country. This organisation which boasts about 100 members, was commenced here four years ago and is doing magnificent work in helping those who require it. They carry their work and their cheer into the sick room, into the homes of the aged, the hospital, and the mental institution, and their only payment is a smile of thanks or a word of gratitude - payment indeed. Last year members devoted 750 hours to serving those not so well off, and it is confident that this year they will easily pass the 1000 hours mark. Perhaps some ladies who read this and who have time on their hands, would like to further the work of the service. Volunteers are always welcome.
