Bowls - 70 years on

The Nelson Bowling Club certainly has every reason to be proud of its new greens and its surrounding grounds. They were in perfect order for the club opening recently. But time was when the present grounds comprised a cow paddock (bottom). That was back in 1920. Before long, however, members' hard work began to bear fruit and the next year the property had been improved immeasurably (below). The other picture, at centre left, was taken at the opening on October 14, 1899 - 70 years ago. At that time the green was on the corner of Sussex Street and Selwyn Place.
