Yachties Busy With New Boats

×

By the time this issue is published, most of the new boats pictured on these pages will have tasted salt water. Some may even have had their first taste of competitive sailing. All have been built during the winter months by keen yachtsmen. With two exceptions, all are cherubs, with fibreglass hulls. The two exceptions are the catamaran, "Crescendo", buiit by Bud.Nalder. Bud built the craft by himself and hopes to have it launched in about a week's time. That's "Crescendo" and Bud (above).

The other exception is the Rothmans multi-purpose sailing dinghy being built for the Nelson Yacht Club by Colin Ratcliffe and Roy Talbot. Rothmans supplied the kit set and the boys are assembling it. The craft can be used for a variety of purposes, chief among which is a training craft for newcomers to the sport.

Graeme Heath and Bernie Gould have just finished building their cherub, "Tenacity". It's already been in the water and the boys are very pleased with the performance.

Rosemary Hattersley christens "Jill Zac" before her launching (the boat, not Rosemary). Making sure that too much of the bubbly isn't wasted on tho boat are owner Ron Lock and his crewman, Jim Steffens. And that's the boat (below left). Below, are Colin Ratcliffe and Barry Grossi with Colin's new cherub, "Miss Fi Glass".
