Save the Children

More than 100 Nelson people, with an eye to the sufferings of under-fed and under-privileged children overseas, heard author and broadcasting personality, Jim Henderson, at an "austerity" (possibly, by our standards) luncheon at the Old Folk's Hall. This was one of the several activities carried out by the "Save the Children Fund" committee in Nelson to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the fund. A parade of children in fancy dress, with a Save the Children theme, was also held.

Mr Henderson receives a small token of appreciation from local president, Mrs Winsome Watson, as Mesdames Melva Robinson, Joan Bagley and Bridget Francois look on.

Attending the function were Miss Anna Brown (Murchison) and Mrs Deborah Ellis.

These three, Austen and Joyce Ward and Pat McNamara, are enthusiastic workers for the fund.

Also there were Dave and Nancy Carran and Frances Peacey.
