Subsidies Should Help Sewer Scheme

Nelson is likely to benefit considerably from the subsidies granted by the Government to local bodies for sewer and water supplies. It appears probable that the Nelson City Council will be able to claim the subsidy limit of $100,000 on its $1 million sewerage project. This, in turn, should help lighten the burden of ratepayers.

In the meantime, the Nelson project is advancing rapidly. At left is a 22-ton Jcb (7C) ditch digger being used by Highways Construction on the trenching and layihg of pipes around Atawhai Drive. This is the only one of its kind in New Zealand, and the biggest made by the firm.

Work on the pumping station is also progressing satisfactorily. This is located behind Neale Park.

Helen Bailey, Tracy Cameron and Jillian Bailey were playing in the pipes when we called and we couldn't resist the pic.
