Those Were The Days

Who said: "It's not like the old days?" Here are a couple of pix to illustrate the point. The pic above shows Nelson's former Member of Parliament, Mr Harry Atmore, his secretary and driver, stranded in flood waters during a tour of the West Coast in 1929. Wet socks all round, and also for the late Mr Fred Jones, the photographer, who took the picture.

Try doing this today and the law would descend fairly quickly and very heavily upon the participants. Not in the old days, however. Not so many laws to worry about then. The picture was taken in 1905 as Nelson saddler and harness maker, Mr F. N. Jones (senr), drove his horse and buggy up the old wooden Church Steps.
