Children's Orchestra

Under the guidance of 12 music teachers, more than 100 schoolchildren from all parts of the province and as far afield as Buller spent a week practising as a symphony orchestra at the Nelson Intermediate School. The children at first split up into instrumental groups, but came together later to practise as a full orchestra. Many of the children were of intermediate school level and above, but others were drawn from primary school classes as low as Std 2. Just about every musical instrument was represented in the orchestra, from an oboe to glockenspiels. At the end of the week the children presented a concert to parents and it will play again at a primary schools' music festival this month.
