Women's Golf Titles

Mrs Joyce Helleur retained her Nelson golf title when she beat Mrs Gwen Grossman 5 and 4 in the final at the Nelson Golf Club's course earlier this month. This particular event seems to be jinxed by the weather. Last year it was held in torrential rain. This year, after the many weeks of sunshine, it was held in cold weather the first day and in dense fog on the second day. Title winner, Mrs Helleur, is above, and runner-up, Mrs Crossman, below. Mrs Helleur's title, however,, did not come easily. In the semi-final she and Mysie Keizer (Totaradale), far right centre, had a very tense struggle which ended on the 18th green when Mrs Helleur holed her putt to win 1 up. Many of the contestants were playing the course for the first Time since it was altered.
