When next you wander through Isel Park exclaiming at the beauty of the grounds, say a wee "thank you" to caretaker Charles Wisdom and his assistant, Errol Mears, Charles, who is married, has been in Nelson since 1961. At the start of the Second World War Charles was head gardener to Queen Mary's secretary, Sir Gerald Chichester. His interests include old time dancing, card playing and cricket. Errol is married, with three children, and came to Nelson from Blenheim 17 years ago. He is a keen tomato grower, also follows cricket and plays darts.

Russ Stowell and his wife, Margaret, both work for Andrews and Beaven, Russ as service foreman and Margaret as shorthand typist. The couple, who have three children, came to Nelson from Christchurch three years ago. Russ's interests are almost wholly tied up with the Society of Modellers, of which he is secretary. Margaret, however, likes reading, music and photography.

Elaine Allan and Sally Baigent are shop assistants at the Tahuna Bakery. Originally Elaine came from Collingwood. Her interests include cards and knitting. Sally is a fairly newlywed (of 4 months). She says she's interested in "everything" but her main interests are knitting and working on a new section.

Susan Gleeson, a typist with the State Advances Corporation, came to New Zealand on a working holiday. Cupid scored with a dart and she was later married. Her main interest is Scottish dancing.

Duck shooting and trout fishing are the main interests of John Russ, a pay clerk with the Nelson Post Office. John was married only six months ago. He comes from Wakefield and has lived there all his life.
