Chess Titles

The Nelson junior chess champion, T. Rooke, beat all comers to win the Nelson district title at the championships held recently. The 15-year-old Waimea College student beat R. Cornelissen in the play-off for the title. The championships were notable for the number of young players taking part. One of the youngest was Gary Shaw (top left), an 11-year-old, in the B-grade.
