Ordination at Richmond

The first ordination to the priesthood of a Richmond resident in the Richmond parish church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help took place earlier this month, when Peter Fahy was ordained by the Auxiliary Bishop of Wellington. Bishop O.N. Sneddon. Father Fahy is an old boy of Nelson College and St. Bede's College, Christchurch, and he studied for the priesthood at Holy Cross Seminary, Christchurch, and Holy Cross College, Mosgiel. He graduated B.Sc. from Canterbury University in 1966. He is a son of Mr and Mrs P. H. Fahy, of Hull, Yorkshire, England. He is seen below with Bishop Sneddon and his grandparents, Mr and Mrs P. Fahy, Richmond, and at top left, with Bishop Sneddon, immediately after the ceremony. Above: Father Fahy about to enter the church for his ordination and, left, a picture taken during the ceremony. Assisting the Bishop are Fathers J.McNeill, Richmond parish priest, and Father J. Cavanagh.
