In most places a 30ft whale wouldn't be very welcome, but members of the Nelson Lions Club are certain that this whale is going to give a lot of children using the Lions' playground at the beach, a lot of pleasure. The steel framework was made in Nelson. It will be covered in netting and concrete-plastered. The cost will be about $500.

Leaving Nelson on return to her home at Kaitaia is Rosemary McPherson, a young lady who picked on a novel way of seeing New Zealand. Rosemary had travelled about 1500 miles on horseback over the North Island and as far as Nelson, before she had to return home for a spell. She plans to return in December to resume her long ride around the South Island. With her is keen Nelson horsewoman, Diane McKay, with whom she stayed in Nelson.
