Archaeologists At Work

Excavations at the site of the old Maori settlement at Rotakura, Cable Bay, were continued by a group of young enthusiasts earl' ier this month. The expedition was led by Mr Jim Eyles, curator of the Nelson Museum (below centre). During earlier excavations, a comprehensive collection of artifacts (fish hooks, adzes and ornaments to mention a few) were unearthed. One find, while our photographer was there, was this piece of human bone (bottom left).
