A Hot Rod

Bill Barton, of Highways Construction, got a shock while driving to Blenheim last month, when the car he was driving, a Zephyr V8, went up in flames just this side of Have-lock. Evidently the fire started under the bonnet and when it got to the wiring under the dashboard it spread rapidly and gutted the car. Volunteer fire fighters from Havelock arrived to quell the blaze but it was too late to save the car, It's a write-off. These pix were taken by David Savage, who was following the vehicle when the fire occurred. Above, is the car burning fiercely, at left, even more fiercely as it is doused and, below, the wreckage.
