The young Tapawera team didn't fare quite so well in the senior game against Celtic, won by Celtic 22-6, But in this game the Tapawera side showed the glimmerings, of better things to come, and it confirmed this showing by holding last year's Nelson union champion side, Rivals, to a draw, the next game, it was the fine jumping of Terry Julian which gave Celtic so much possession, and the team capitalised on this to score 16 points in the second half.
