Primary Schools Swimming

Urged on by schoolmates, swimmers from primary schools within the city area competed against each other in the annual inter-primary schools' swimming sports at the Municipal Pool. And while the swimming itself provided some exciting moments, we couldn't help but be struck by the quiet efficiency with which school officials sorted out, started and recorded the results of races involving (so it seemed to us) hundreds of children.

Winners of the girls' and boys' two-lengths championships were Catherine Coote (Hampden Street) and Kevin Smith (St Joseph's Convent).
