This five-roomed house in Willow Street was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of a recent Saturday morning. Its occupants, Mr and Mrs W. Jenkins, were out of town at the time, and it is believed that they lost nearly all their possessions in the blaze. Although the Gisborne Fire Brigade sent two engines to fight the fire, they were unable to save the house, as the blaze was already out of control.

The wall of the house next door suffered minor damage from the intense heat.

This late-model Volkswagen Karman Ghia attracted a lot of attention when its owner, Mr Scottie MacDonald of Opotiki, visited Gisborne recently. Scottie bought the car on a visit to England and brought it back to New Zealand with a tourist's licence obtained through Mortimer's Garage Ltd. Pictured with the vehicle are Mick Sheridan (sales manager), Scottie MacDonald, and Mrs MacDonald.
