The Waipiro Bay Hotel which closed its doors for the last time on June 30th and was auctioned for removal on July 6th. Its publican, Mr David Alley, is now proprietor of the Matawai Hotel.

The Te Moana buoy being repainted on the Gisborne Harbour wharf after it had broken loose from its moorings in the roadstead and was narrowly rescued from the rocks off Kaiti Beach by two Harbour Board vessels.

The new fishing boat wharf, in the outer basin of the harbour adjacent to the slipway, is capable of mooring four 60 foot vessels to ease the congestion in the inner harbour.
