Budding Basketballers

A masculine team made up from members of the Old Boys' Rugby Football Club recently ventured into the realms of the feminine sport of basketball with moderate success when they tangled with the Educats Basketball team in a challenge game on the Poverty Bay Association's courts in Childers Road.

Although the challengers fielded several highjumping lineout specialists, they were narrowly defeated by 20 goals to 17 in an extremely entertaining game.

Lineout specialist Bill Fitzgerald leaps high in the air to gain possession, much to the amusement of his opposite, Ann Dodd.

Lock forward Neil Russell, complete with headgear, shoots at goal as he is challenged by Elaine Watson.

Watched by Phillip Gaukrodger, Hilary Swindell and Bill Fitzgerald do an impromptu ballet as they jump for the evasive ball.
