Amateur Boxing

In four action-packed bouts, Gisborne's Roy Skuse, Mai Watte, and Peter and Paul Lister, all front Cook's Gymnasium, convincingly defeated their challengers from Auckland before a capacity crowd at an amateur boxing tournament in the Army Hall on a recent Saturday night.

Roy Skuse was undoubtably the star of the tournament when, for the second time in a month, he knocked out his opponent with a dynamic right.

In the two Lister bouts, the Aucklanders proved to be very tough fighters, taking tremendous punishment from the well-placed, hammering blows of the skilful Gisborne boys.

Although Peter Lister's opponent, T. George, at times looked very formidable, Lister rallied well in the third round to win on a split decision.
