Shark Patrol

Sharks are very much in the minds of swimmers these days, but so far there have been no incidents on East Coast beaches. The nearest thing to a shark incident was one evening recently when Mr Roy Anderson, caretaker at the Intermediate School, and a former commercial fisherman who knows how to handle sharks, waded into the Waikanae surf and yanked a 5ft blue shark out by its tail. During the Northern Regional surf contest, Station 2XG organised an air patrol, but no sharks were seen during the day.
