Miss E. M. Parker, 28 Lyndhurst Street, who has retired, after 33 years in the teaching profession. Miss Parker was teaching at the Gisborne Intermediate School for the last 12 years.

Te Hanoa (Betty) Koopu, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Taka Koopu, Maraenui, East Coast, who has won a scholarship of £70 a year for four years at Queen Victoria Maori Girls' School, Auckland. Betty attained the highest marks of all candidates in social studies. The scholarship is competed for by any pupil with 50%, or more, Maori blood.

A golden wedding of interest to Gisborne was celebrated at the Mon Desir Hotel, Takapuna. It was that of Mr and Mrs R. J. (Bob) Mortimer (formerly of Gisborne).
