Rip Roarin' Rodeo

Rodeo enthusiasts were treated to a field day when the Poverty Bay-East Coast Rodeo Association held their annual fixture at the showgrounds recently. Fine weather drew a record crowd who were entertained by a fast, thrill-packed programme with riders from all over the North Island and from Australia competing.

In the open bareback event the ambulance was kept busy when three consecutive riders were thrown and required medical treatment. The meeting ended, however, without serious injuries.

The wild cow milking competition, in which teams of three endeavoured to milk a wild cow, proved very popular with the crowd.
