Kite Flying Contest

The ancient and honourable art of kite-flying received an airing at Anseac Park the other day when Gisborne Life Boys competed in a kite contest. The weather and the wind were fair, and the park presented a lively and colourful sight as 60 or 70 boys and their kites, plus a good muster of fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers, tried their skill.

The winners for the best-constructed kite, judged by the Public Relations Officer, Mr D. A. Clarke, are pictured on this page.

All the kites demonstrated were of the familiar diamond shape, none of the box type being in evidence.

Most of the entries flew well, but numerous crashes and tangles re-suited in only a few surviving to the end of the day.
