Exhibition Golf

A good exhibition of golf was provided by the four professionals, Eddie Fennell, of Rotorua (formerly of Gisborne), Jim Parkinson (Gisborne), Michael Busk (Manawatu) and Ernie Southerden (Napier), in a match played on the Awapuni course last month. Fennell and Parkinson won the match 3 and 2. There was a large gallery of spectators.

The tricky Awapuni course had all the contestants in trouble at times. None of the four finished within five strokes of the standard scratch score. Parkinson, who took 82, had just previously broken the course record with a brilliant 70.
