The Gardens

The injunction sought by three citizens to prevent the City Council carrying out its reorganisation plan for the Botanical Gardens was refused by Mr Justice Hutchison in Wellington, and at the next meeting of the Council, after a full discussion, it was decided to adhere to the original plan to re-site some flower beds and grass over others to facilitate mowing. Paths considered to be useless will be eliminated, and the restricting hedges fronting Aberdeen Road will be removed to improve the view.

After all the smoke had cleared away from this somewhat bitter controversy, it appeared to many citizens that there would have been no fuss had the scheme been fully explained to the public when it was first proposed last year.
